Big Buddha

Phuket, Thailand

A much more recent addition to the island of Phuket is the Big Buddha, which sits atop a hill with great views. Construction on the grounds started in 2004 and was still ongoing but mostly completed. The statue is 45 meters tall and 25 meters wide, making it the third tallest Buddha in Thailand. It wasn’t the tallest Buddha that we saw on our trip, but it was still very impressive. Therese also liked the nearby Dharani Mata Hindu statue. She represents Mother Earth and squeezes water out of her ponytail to supply the people of Bangkok with drinking water.
