After our day trip to the temples of Ayutthaya, we headed back to Bangkok to see a few of the most popular sites the city has to offer, with the first stop being the Grand Palace. It used to be the royal residence, but today it is only used on ceremonial occasions. The Grand Palace is one of the most popular attractions in all of Thailand, and it was one of the most crowded places that we have ever been to, but it was definitely worth it to see all of the extravagantly designed structures. It really is impossible to depict the grandeur of the Grand Palace in photos. It also houses the Emerald Buddha inside Wat Phra Kaew, which is the most sacred Buddha image in Thailand. Only the king can touch the Buddha, which he does three times a year to change its jewel-embedded garments to correspond to the hot, rainy, and cool seasons.
