Virgen del Carmen Parade

Historic Centre of Lima, Peru

Just as we started exploring Lima’s historic district, we stumbled upon a parade that we ended up watching for over an hour. At the time, we didn’t know what it was for, but we later found out that it was a parade for the Virgen del Carmen, or “Our Lady of Carmen”. She is one of the various advocations of the Virgin Mary and also goes by “Patron of Creole” and “Perpetual Mayor of the City of Lima” in Peru. It was a fun time watching all of the people dancing in their beautiful attire while enjoying every second of it. Hats off to the guys wearing red and white scarves for being the most lively and entertaining!
